How to make multicoloured square vortex - Quilling tutorial

Hello everyone!
I know many of you are still having problems quilling multicoloured square vortex shapes. So did I years ago! LOL! On a good day I could make lots of them, but there are times when it really tests my patience and hurts my fingers! haha!

I have to say that I thought of a new way of making the multicoloured square vortex shapes coincidentally as I was doing quilling. Been busy with other stuff lately that I have stopped quilling for  a few weeks. But when I started quilling again, the idea came to mind, alhamdulillah. Such a blessing because I love the multicoloured square vortex shapes a lot. But making them can be a burden to me and to some people and I'm so happy that it's no more the case now. I can now make as many of them as I like. I'm super happy about that.

In the video tutorial that I made back in 2016, I made the multicoloured square vortex shapes using 3mm shredded papers and I used the slotted quilling tool. In my new video tutorial, I used clean cut 5mm quilling paper that I cut by hand piece by piece and I used a flea comb instead as a tool. So it's totally different from what I did years ago.

A lot of people have been asking me about the type of paper I used to make the multicoloured square vortex. Well, I have stated in the video tutorial the type of paper I used and most of the time it has always been A4 80gsm printing paper. I don't buy standard quilling papers for my quilling craft. I prefer to make them myself. Either I cut them piece by piece or use the manual paper shredder or the pasta machine.

Please watch the new video and see how easy it is to make the square vortex shapes. You'll be surprised!

How to make your own stamping tool | CHEAP and EASY!!

Hello everyone!
I'm so excited to share with you about this diy stamping tool I just made! This really helped me with stamping again. I rarely stamp anymore but with this new tool I'm stamping like crazy once again! LOL! I have a lot of collection of clear stamps that I bought or received from friends over the years and recently I'm getting free clear stamps from a craft company, so I am thrilled that I can use them now and decorate the stamped images on my handmade cards!

A lot of people are so hyped about the MISTI Stamp Tool that's available in the market. I love it too! I've seen a lot of crafters online using it to stamp images for their handmade cards. But since it's super expensive to buy, that's why I decided to make my own. Hopefully one day I can afford to buy a good quality stamping tool like that.

Most crafters face the same problem when it comes to stamping images on paper. We never seem to get enough amount of ink the first time we stamp a particular image. But layering the image with an inked stamp again and again might spoil the image if you don't have a steady hand. So that's why it's every crafters dream to have that stamping tool. Luckily we have an alternative to that now!

Hope you will check out the video tutorial I made and have an idea of how I made the diy stamping tool so you can make one yourself! Thank you for watching! And have fun stamping!

How to make a Triangle Twist quilling flower

I'm so happy to post about my first quilling tutorial in 2019! Yay! Been so long since I made a post here or even made a quilling tutorial. Took a long break from work since October last year because I was not well. To be honest, I'm still not well now but I'm slowly healing and I wanted to make this video for all those who are fans of quilling and are a fan of making quilling vortex shapes. A lot of my followers on Instagram have been requesting as well for me to make this video for them. They have been waiting so long for this.

It may seem like I took my own sweet time to make it but that's only because I needed some time to make more experiments on it to make sure the flower looks identical every time I make it. I wanted it to be perfect so to speak because before this, I myself had a hard time making sure it looks the same every time I make it. So I couldn't make the video if I was not happy with it myself right?? Thank God that finally with a lot of patience, I managed to pull through, figured out what was wrong with my technique and got it right in the end.

As always, I am using A4 80gsm colour printing paper to make my quilling papers. I cut them myself using a craft knife and sometimes with a razor blade. Measuring the paper is so important to make sure that each strip of paper is about the same width. For this flower, the measurement for each quilling paper  used is 5mm x 297mm. I showed in the video the measurements in inches as well. So be sure to watch the video tutorial to find out the exact measurements. For each petal, I used 3 strips of the quilling paper.

In this video, I will be teaching you how to make a triangle shape vortex using a flea comb. With the experiments that I have done before I figured out that we could also make with it using a slotted quilling tool but the result is not the same. I still prefer making it using the flea comb as the design looks much nicer.

Once you know how the basics of how to make this triangle shape vortex, then you can easily make it in different colours or multiple colours in each triangle. You could also make them in different sizes. The longer the quilling paper, the bigger the triangle will be.

Do check out the video tutorial on how to make this flower at the link HERE. Have fun trying it out. Hope it turns out lovely each time you make it! ;)

My version of the Shell Shape quilling flower - Tutorial

Well hello again!
Another quilling tutorial post today for you guys. I guess I've been doing a lot quilling tutorials lately. It's all because I've been getting so many requests from my followers on Instagram to make them, I just can't say no. I'm in the mood for it anyways. I just feel like quilling and quilling and quilling. Looks like my absence from quilling for so many months has led to this!

Ok! Back to the subject! The Shell Shape quilling flower! It's a quilling flower made using a quilling comb. I learned how to make it from a quilling tutorial made by Toshi M last July. You can view her quilling tutorial on her YouTube channel at the link HERE. I wasn't really sure about how to make it in the beginning because I didn't know the length of the quilling paper that she used to make each petal of the flower. So I experimented a lot in order to make it exactly like she did it. In the end, I still couldn't make it look exactly like hers because I think our quilling papers are different. So it turned differently. Similar, but not exactly the same.

Once I figured out how to make her Shell Shape quilling flower, I wanted to give it a try with a different type of quilling comb. So I used a lice comb! I got it many years ago back in 2012 when I first learned how to do the quilling comb technique. You could see my blog post about it at the link HERE. I experimented a lot with different types of combs back then. It was kinda like an obsession. The more combs, the merrier. Haha!

Anyways, when I tried to make the Shell Shape quilling flower with the lice comb, I was shocked to see how it turned out. It looked like the shape of a heart instead of a shell. Well, that's my personal opinion la! Haha! It seems that, the smaller the pins of the comb and the smaller the gap in between it, makes all the difference. So that's the trick! That's what makes them different. I figured, the best way to make people understand how it's done is by making a tutorial. Because just showing what type of comb I used is not enough. You have to see how it's done in order to understand. A lot of people have been bugging me to do this tutorial, so I hope you guys find it helpful and share it with those who love quilling too.

I used a 80gsm colour printing paper for this flower which I cut myself by hand with razor and ruler. The size of each strip is 5mm x 297mm. So for one petal, I combined two different colour quilling papers. I used the same amount of paper to make Toshi M's quilling flower. So in other words, you can use the same measurements and yet different results all because of the quilling comb. The quilling comb is the reason why they look different.

So do check out the quilling tutorial below and give it a try yourself. Hope you will enjoy trying it out. Have fun quilling! :)

Multicolour quilling flower tutorial!

Hello again!
We are closely coming to the end of August and September is just around the corner. Today I had the opportunity again to make my second quilling tutorial for this month. This particular quilling flower seems to be a favourite among my followers on Instagram and many had requested me to make a tutorial for it. I've been trying to find some free time to do it the past few days and only today I had the chance, alhamdulillah.

Although I'm not that great at making video tutorials, I do what I can with what I have and make it happen. I really hope in future I'll be better at it.

Well, this multicolour quilling flower is a little different from other quilling flowers I've made before. One thing for sure is that the quilling papers are not like the ones I've been using for my other tutorials. This particular quilling paper is longer than the usual A4 printing paper's length. I really like it a lot.

The width of each quilling strip is 5mm and the length is 390mm. So, if you are using the A4 printing papers as your quilling paper, you may need to join 2 quilling strips together to make each petal of the flower, because 1 quilling strip is not enough.

Yellow and orange combination

Purple and pink combination

There are many colour combinations you can try out to make this flower. I tried making it with the blue and purple combination and that really was nice. But of course the pink and green combo is always a favourite with me! You can try yellow and orange or purple and pink! That will be lovely too!

Do check out the video below and give it a try! Have fun quilling! ;)

How to make cute paper bows!

Hello everyone!
I can't believe that's it's almost the end of July! We are left with just a few more months to be filled with lots of crafting joy! What have you all been doing lately? Well, I have been playing with these paper bows. I can't seem to stop making them ever since I figured out how to make them! Aren't they just so cute?! I love them! I started making them early this month. Once I figured out how to make them, I just had to share with everyone how it's made.

These bows looks just like the bows made with the We R Memory Keeper punch board, but they are NOT!! I cut them up by hand. No special boards were used in the making of these paper bows. Believe or not! Yes, all that was needed was just a pencil, a ruler, a pair of scissors, some white glue and a circle template or a 180 degree round ruler.

The measurements for the paper bows are as below:

1st piece is 6 inches x 1 inch.
2nd piece is 3 1/2 inches x 1 inch.
3rd piece is 1/4 inch x 1 inch.

Once you know how to make this paper bows, you can use them to decorate on paper bags, handmade cards, gift boxes and more! It's all up to your imagination. It's a great way to use up all your pattern paper scraps you have in your collection. I know I'm gonna use them all up. I have lots of them in my craft room just waiting to be turned into paper bows!

Do watch the video tutorial below if you want to give it a try! Thanks so much for watching! Enjoy!

How to make Ketupat ribbons for Raya cards

Hello again!
It's March 2018 and I have been busy the past few weeks with lots of things. Early this year I was so obsessed with knitting, crocheting and also weaving. Most of the projects are still ongoing. Still not completed yet because I only do them during my free time, which is mostly at night while watching TV hahahah. But I think I might have to slow down or even stop my obsession for a while because I have a lot of cards to make before Ramadhan comes.

This post today is something that I have been meaning to do for years. It's a very simple tutorial and something that is very easy to do. This year, I got another request from one of my followers on Instagram. She is one of hundreds who have requested me to do it over the years, so  I made sure this year I would find the time to do it and share with everyone how I make these Ketupat ribbons.

As most of you know, I've been making them for so many years now in different sizes. Each year I would make it a point to make them for my Raya cards. In this tutorial, you'll see that I've only shown how to make the big size Ketupat ribbon. This is because it's easier for you to make the big ones compared to the small ones and it's easier for you to see and understand the process. Once you have mastered making the big ones, it would be easier for you to make them in any size you like.

Below are samples of Raya cards that I've made over the years using the Ketupat ribbons. But you can also see some really old ones that I made at the links below:

Hope you'll get inspired by them and make your own! Do check out my video below too. Thanks for watching and happy crafting! :)

Three layers tiny loops quilling flower tutorial

I'm so excited today that I finally got this quilling flower tutorial done! Wooohooo!!! The last time I did a quilling tutorial was last January, which means it was about 8 months ago. No wonder I feel so at lost when I did the video today, it's because it's been too long since I last did a tutorial. I know there are so many other tutorials that I need to do. So hopefully I will get to do more after this. Been working on this quilling flower a little over a couple of weeks now. Those who follows me on Instagram @azlinaabdul would know about it since I posted some photos of the flower there before.

In the beginning I only made the flower using just a single colour for the whole flower. Then I realized that it would look a lot better with 2 different colours, until one day I realized that using 3  different colours for each layer of the loop would be better.

It took me so long to get the video done because I needed to get the right measurements for the flowers and of course to make some samples of them as well. Also, I needed to plan out how to do the tutorial itself so that it's easy for viewers to understand what I'm teaching them.

As always I would be using the shredded papers for my quilling tutorials. Because my main mission for making them is to help those who aren't fortunate enough to buy standard/high quality quilling supplies to not feel they need to use expensive quilling papers to make pretty crafts. They just need to be creative that's all. But of course, you could use any type of quilling paper for this quilling flower. It doesn't matter.

My shredded papers are 3mm wide by 297mm in length. To make one flower, takes about 45 pieces of quilling strips! That's a lot of paper! I was hesitant to do the quilling tutorial because of this. When I realized how long it's going to take to make just one flower, I freaked out! I knew uploading the video on YouTube would take me hours. So I tried my best to make it as quickly as I could! Had to do some shortcuts to make it happen. But I'm glad I did it anyways. At least now I have a video of it in case I forget one day how to make the flower hahahahaha.

Hope you will check out the video tutorial below, HAPPY QUILLING!!!

How to make two tone tear drop shape quilling flowers

We are coming close to mid February and I'm blogging about something that I did last January! LOL! It's been a month since I last blogged here. And soon enough, after this I'll be blogging a lot more on what I did last January because January was so packed with crafting activities. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the time to blog about them then.

Last year I made quite a lot of this two tone tear drop shape quilling flower for my customers. I made quite a lot of cute thank you cards for them and decorated them with this flower. I even made a birthday card with this type of flower. Since so may requested for a tutorial for this flower, I tried to make one for them. I don't always get some free time to do it, but when I do, I try to make a few if possible.

I do hope many enjoyed the tutorial I uploaded on YouTube.....and tried to make this flower your own. For those who didn't manage to check it out earlier at my YouTube channel, you can check it out at the video I embedded below. Have fun quilling this flower ya!  😍😍💕💕

How to make square vortex coils

After making lots of the basic vortex coils, I then tried to make squared ones. I didn't actually got it figured out right away. I knew how to make simple square quilling shapes but I didn't know how to get that vortex pattern inside the square. Then I figured that everything had to start with the basic vortex coil shape. Once I came to that realization, then it became very clear what I should do in order to get that square vortex coil pattern.

As promised, I have made a video tutorial on how to make the square vortex coils. So many people have requested for me to make it. It is not easy to explain with mere words on how to do it, so making a video is the best way for me to get the idea across.

The multicolour square vortex coil pattern I made in the video was made using 4 different colours of blue shredded quilling papers. My shredded quilling papers are 3mm wide and 297mm long. I used 80gsm A4 paper to make these shredded papers. You can use any type of quilling paper you fancy but I think that if you plan to make a big size vortex coil, then I suggest you use a much thinner paper, and 80gsm would be great. If you plan to use only one strip, then you can use thicker type of quilling papers.

I'm not sure yet of what design I would do using these square vortex coils but I do think that it would be great for making designs for frames and also for jewelry. I don't do jewelry though, but I will use it as decorations on my handmade cards.

Do check out the video tutorial below and have fun quilling! :)

How to make quilling vortex coils with a slotted quilling tool

Sometime ago this month, I came to learn how to make vortex coils from a short video tutorial that I saw at my dear friend's Miyyah@Kertas's Instagram. I got so hooked up with it that I practiced making the coils a lot. The more I make them, the more I got hooked. The first try was not as nice and I was not 100 % satisfied with the results, but eventually I got the hang of it. I was quite happy with the outcome but I find it was really hard to make them.

First of all, since my hands are pretty shaky most of the time, it was hard to hold the coils and make sure I didn't drop it while coiling it. My fingers hurt a lot in the process of making the coils because the process of rolling and pinching the coil really hurts especially when I used thick paper strips instead of thin ones. Not sure how other people felt when they make them, but I felt that way.

One day a customer of mine contacted me and expressed her frustrations in her inability to successfully make the vortex coils due to health issues she has with her hands. She only has one hand that is fully functioning and the other one is not functioning as well as the other. So, she asked me to help her out by designing  a tool that she can use to help her make the vortex coils. I was stunned! I had no idea how to do that since I myself just used my bare hands to make them. I felt so bad for her and really thought hard that day on how to solve her problem. She's a real fighter and she never gave up trying even though it was tough for her to do it. Her determination pushed me to find solutions. Then it occurred to me that perhaps my handmade slotted quilling tool could do the trick. I immediately tried making the vortex coils with the tool and to my disbelief, it worked!!! Bingo!

I reached my digital camera and started making the video after testing the method a few times. After I was certain that the method works, I just had to do the tutorial. I'm so happy that not only I benefited from the method as I no longer hurt my fingers making them now, I also helped others to make them. That made me really happy. One thing though, just after I uploaded the video tutorial, I got a better idea on how to make them! LOL!! So I made another video on vortex coils today and this new method helps me make vortex coils faster and easier too!

You can use any type of quilling paper you like to make vortex coils, thin or thick ones, shredded or smooth store bought quilling papers. I have tried them all and the method works for all types.

I will be making another video tutorial to show how to make a square vortex coil soon. Do be on the look out for that one soon! :)

Here is my vortex coils video tutorial that I made so do give it a try! Thank you so much for watching! :)

How to make a two tone quilling teddy bear

I've been thinking of making a video tutorial for a quilling teddy bear this year but I wanted the design to be different from the quilling teddy bear I've made years ago. So after taking such a long time to practice making and redesigning my quilling teddy bear for the past few weeks, I'm finally satisfied with the new design.

As you all know I have made quilling teddy bears before way back in 2010. Back then, the quilling teddy bears that I made were a bit bigger and mostly were brown in colour. Later after that I did make smaller ones but they were simpler, with loose coils and had faces that didn't even have any eyes or lips.

But for today's design, although they are small, but it's combination of the big and small quilling teddy bears.  Also, I've added something new to my quilling teddy bear design especially for the face and body. If you take the time to look at my older quilling teddy bear designs then you will be able to see the differences between the old and new.

A lot of people have been asking me to make a video tutorial for my quilling teddy bears over the years but I never got around to doing it till now. So I hope that this video tutorial will make a lot of people happy :).

As promised, below are the measurements for the two tone quilling teddy bear:
I am using 80gsm quilling papers to make my two tone quilling teddy bear. The quilling papers were made by cutting up an A4 colour paper using a mini paper shredder. The size of each strip of paper is 3mm x 297mm.

1. For the face:
    - 5 quilling strips
    - Circle number 7

2. For the body:
    - 11 quilling strips (5 strips of soft cream colour + 6 strips of any colour).
    - Circle number 11

3. For the hands and legs:
   - 1/2 strip of any colour + 1/4 strip of soft cream colour.
   - Circle number 5

4. For the ears:
    - 1/4 strip of any colour + 1/4 strip of soft cream colour.
    - Circle number 3

5. For the cheeks and nose:
    - 1 strips of soft cream colour, cut in half and joined together + 1/2 of the 1/4 strip of black colour.
    - No need to use a circle template for this. Just roll the strips to make a tight coil.

6. For the eyes:
    - 1/2 of the 1/4 strip of black colour for each eye.
    - No need to use a circle template for this. Just roll the strips to make a tight coil.
    - Paste on top of each eye a tiny white paper dot.
    - Then finish it by pasting on top of the white paper dot with an even tinier black paper dot.
    - The tiny dots were made by using a Martha Stewart craft punch.

7. For the lips:
    - I hand cut the shape of the lips using a craft knife.

Do enjoy watching and learning how to make the two tone quilling teddy bear from my video tutorial below. Have fun quilling!! ;)

Quiling fan flower tutorial

I was just playing around with my quilling papers the other day, thinking of a new quilling flower for me to make. I guess I was getting bored of doing the same kind of quilling flowers for my cards. So I just needed a new quilling flower to try out. Something simple to do, nothing complicated and yet interesting enough for me to get excited about. But I wanted to make something I can call my own instead of making something that is taught on YouTube.

When I was in the process of making this quilling fan flower, I was actually inspired by a certain type of quilling flower I saw on the net. It was so beautiful. When I made the video tutorial for it, I wanted to mention the name of the flower that inspired me but I forgot the name. Now I remember! It was the quilled poppy flower made by Manuela Koosch. The quilled poppy flower she made was stunning!! I can't imagine making a quilling flower like that just yet. It must have been really difficult to make and time consuming too!

My flower however is of course not a poppy flower at all. But the petals of my quilling fan flower have those straight lines that are similar to the lines made in the quilled poppy flower. My lines are the same length unlike the lines of the poppy flower. SO that's one of the major differences.

Anyways, I do hope you will check out my latest video tutorial below. Learn to make a new flower today! :)

Embossed mini rolled roses tutorial

Yay!!! Finally I got some free time today to do a quick video tutorial that so many have been waiting for. I have received a lot of requests for this tutorial and I know I just had to somehow arrange my time to do it this month and I'm so glad I managed to do it in my busy schedule.

It may not be a perfect tutorial but I really hope everyone is able to understand what I tried to convey in it and hopefully you guys can try it out yourself and see if it would work out for you as much as it did for me. As you can see from the photo above, all the paper roses are not identical.....they all turned out differently each time I make them.....so don't worry too much if they don't look the same. They are supposed to look handmade! :D

Have a look at the video tutorial below! Have fun!! :)

Double star loop flower tutorial

This is another one of the quilled flowers design that I made at the same time I was making the Teary loop flowers about 2 weeks ago I've done a flower that is similar to this one before as you can see at the link HERE. The only difference is in the way I arranged the amount of cascading loops to form the flower. Even the shape of the flower was made differently from this one. Honestly I prefer this latest design compared to the one I made back in 2011. ;)

I took some time off today to make this video tutorial. Had to shoot the video a few times because there were so many disturbances as I was making it. In the end it was finally done and I had to be happy with it even though it was not exactly how I want it to be. I was too tired to make a new one ehehehehe. Hope everyone find the video tutorial easy to understand and find the steps easy to follow too. Enjoy the video and happy quilling combing! :)

Teary loops flower tutorial

I made these teary loops flowers recently but didn't have the time to make a tutorial of it at the time. Finally I had some time off today to make one and share with everyone. It's a very simple quilled flower made using a hair comb and some colourful quilling paper.

You can view the tutorial at the video below. Hope it is easy for everyone to understand and follow. Thanks for taking the time to watch and happy quilling everyone! ;)

Quilled flower arrangement for wedding

WS001

Another first attempt for me! Yes, this is the first time I had to make a quilled flower arrangement that will be pasted on a wedding guestbook. I was a bit unsure of doing this at first since it's not my favourite thing to do. But after much persuasion and thought, I decided to give it a try. At least once in my life, I would try to make one.

After accepting the offer, I had quite a hard time deciding on the type of flowers I would make. My customer did requested that the flowers be arranged around the rectangular board so that it would look like a frame and then add some wordings at the center of it. She also wanted the colour combination be all in pastel colours and all the wordings in brown colour. So all I had to do then was to decide on what type of flowers I would make.

I've done a lot of quilled Malaysian flowers and Husking flowers for my quilled frames before so I didn't want to do the same thing again for this one. After much thought I decided to make the Lovely loops flower. It's something I rarely make and it's quite difficult to make as well. It was a good challenge for me. And for the first time too, I made them in two different sizes.

Oh yes! This is also the first time for me to try make those chubby butterflies! ehehe! I love them! It was really fun to make them. I saw a tutorial on how to make them on Pinterest long time ago and been wanting to make them for so long now but been too busy to try them out. So I thought that this would be the best time to give it a try since my customer did request for me to make a couple of butterflies for the quilled flower arrangement.

If you would like to try and make those Lovely loops flower, you can view my video tutorial below on how to make them. ;)

How to make two tone tear drop shape quilling flowers

We are coming close to mid February and I'm blogging about something that I did last January! LOL! It's been a month sin...
