Large Twisted Loops Flowers - Quilling Tutorial

Hello everyone!

So I'm back with a blog post today after I uploaded a new quilling tutorial yesterday on my YouTube channel. I think it's been about 2 months or so since I last made a quilling tutorial there and I was working on another quilling tutorial but I decided to postpone that one and do this one first since this one is connected to the previous quilling tutorial that I did last August. It has something to do with the Twisted Loops and so I thought it would be better to do this one since you guys are familiar already with the Twisted Loops now.

So here's the story on why I decided to do this tutorial now. As you can see, there are two different Twisted Loops flower design that I made in this tutorial and the blue one was inspired by a quiller I follow on Instagram by the name of hexiaoxiao57Her flower design is absolutely beautiful. I tried to make it like hers but I don't think I even came close since I used a different type of quilling paper and a different way of making the fringe flower for the Twisted Flower as well. Like I said earlier I didn't plan on making this tutorial but, I had so many requests from my Instagram followers to do it. They wanted to know how to make hexiaoxiao57's flower like the blue one you see in the photo above. Maybe because of the Twisted Loops flower I did before, so they assume I would know how to make her flower design . I got tired of explaining to them how it's done and it's not easy to explain with words, it's a lot easier to explain through a demo via video. I'm not sure why they didn't ask hexiaoxiao57 themselves on how to make the flower. I myself have asked her to make the tutorial too but till now she hasn't made one. So I thought of making my own version of it so that my followers would have an idea of how it's done. It may not be as perfect as hexiaoxiao57's flower but at least it resembles it a bit.

I came up with the idea for the other twisted loops flower design, which is the peach coloured one after I made that blue flower design a few times and I really really love it a lot. It's different because of the way I twisted the loops of the petal. You'll see what I mean after you've watched the video tutorial. I made a few of that design in many colours already. Not sure yet at the moment what I'll make with them but I think I will make simple small cards with them, like Thank you cards or something like gift cards. Yes, that would be cute!

There are many ways to make the center part of the flower, it's all up to your imagination, it doesn't necessarily need to be a fringe flower. As from the photos above, you can see the different types of center part I made, but they're mostly tight coils and you can mix it with bling bling stone stickers. I'm just lazy as well to make fancy center part for the flowers. So I just made simple ones, Ha! Ha!

Anyways, I hope you'll like the tutorial once you've watched it and give the flowers a try. Do check out the video tutorial below and happy quilling guys! ;)

How to make the 235 quilling flower

Hello everyone!!
New video tutorial for everyone! Been so long since I last made one, I wish I have the energy to do more. Truly.

You must be wondering why I name the flower 235 right? Well I did explain why in the video tutorial, but what the heck, I'll tell you now why I chose that name. It's simply because I used 2mm, 3mm and 5mm quilling papers to make that flower. LOL! Yes I know it's a little funny but nevermind I don't care. I made it and I'll name it whatever I want hahaha!

You'll get to learn a trick or two by watching the video as I go through step by step on how to make the flower. It's time consuming to make just one flower but the results is awesome. Do check out the video tutorial below and make lots of 235 quilling flowers today! Thank you!

Hello Sweetheart - Quilling + String art card

Hello again everyone!
Happy to share another one of my quilling + string art card series today.  I still have a few more in progress with different colour combinations and arrangements.  This card is filled with pink colours in the background. There's those pink polka dots layered on top of a dark pink card stock. Then there's pink flowers, pink butterflies and pink sentiments!

I think this is my first time trying out this colour palette. The brown string art circle match well with pink, yellow and green. I wish I had a different type of green paper for this combo but I didn't have a lot of choice for the green paper and  so the light green seemed to go well with the combo. Make do of what I have! ;)

I really really love that Hello Sweetheart die from In Love Arts Shop! It's perfect! With tiny little hearts and all together with the sentiment! Cool! I die cut the dark pink sentiment 3 times and layered them to give it a special raised effect. Loved the results. I don't have anymore problems cutting them even though the design is a bit intricate.

Another first for me is making that big 3 layer pink and beige flower. Now that I can cut 2mm, 3mm and 5mm paper on my own, I can now experiment more on combining them in a single flower. Just a simple one and I loved it. D Will definitely do more with different techniques.

The whole idea here is to try new things, and be creative, that's  what ignites the fire within to craft more. I personally love to challenge myself every time so that I will always have the drive.

For Someone Special - Quilling + String Art card

Hello everyone!
I'm back with another quilling handmade card! After playing around and experimenting a lot with the 2mm and 5mm quilling papers that I made using the pasta machine, I finally assembled them all on a piece of card.

I had sewn a Spirelli string art on a piece of a circle card and added matching seed beads that matched the quilling flowers and leaves. This type of design can be made in different colour combinations.

This is my first time using the polka dot stencil to make the background of the card. I really love how it turned out. The Tim Holtz's Peacock Feathers distress ink that I used to ink the polka dots on the metallic card really suits the base of the card and the quilling arrangement.

It's a simple card design and not too crowded and bulky. I was happy to be able to use the die cuts that I got from In Love Arts Shop again as sentiments for the card. It is one of my favourite die cut sentiments from them. I'll be using more of it in future because it's suitable for all sorts of occasions. :)

You Are A Blessing To Me - Quilling card

Hello everyone!
I'm super excited to share with everyone here today about this quilling card I made. Only two out of the five cards that I made using the metal cutting dies and clear stamps that I received from In Love Arts Shop were made last December. The other three I made them early this month.

For this card, I get to use two of the metal cutting dies and one of the clear stamps. I really love the metal cutting dies used for this card especially the Rectangular Frame Dies. It looks like a lattice, that's why I used it as a background for the flowers and leaves. The combination is perfect. As you can see I coloured the lattice by blending some distress ink on them. I really love the effect. It looks just like a scene in the garden. I really enjoy blending distress ink on paper nowadays with the makeup blending tool.

The quilling flowers is an old design that I made back in 2015. If you wish to learn how to make them too, just click on the play button on the video tutorial below and watch how I make them. It's super easy to make and so cute in size.

Stitching on cards

It's been a while since I last blogged here and honestly I really miss it so much. I haven't been in the best of health lately, physically challenged and quite frankly it's draining me. Music and craft have been the things that entertained me and kept me positive all the while. Of course above all is having faith in the Almighty  that all the pain is just temporary and I will see that beautiful rainbow again. Nothing is permanent, so that's how I try to keep positive always. Learn to manage the problem and all will be well.

Those who have been following me here over the years would know how I much I love sewing on paper and how I love to use them as part of the decorations on my handmade cards. Creating simple lines with colourful embroidery threads and adding beads and sequins to them too. Well, this time around I wanted to do more.

I was inspired to do more when I stumbled upon this very creative lady named Jennifer McGuire on YouTube. She is also a crafter, and she loves to hand stitch beautiful designs on her handmade cards. Of course that's not just what she does as a crafter, obviously she makes other creative designs which I also love. I just fell in love with her work! Love them all!

So off I went to try hand stitching the way she does, unfortunately it's not as easy as how she does it because she has a cross-stitch die that is to die for!! Haha! I can't seem to find anyone selling the cross stitch dies here. There are a few different types of them for different projects. Even if they do sell them, I'll bet the dies would be very expensive to buy. But those cross-stitch die makes it so much easier to hand stitch any design I want. So since I don't have them, I had to do the hand stitching the hard way, which involves me poking the paper manually with a quilling needle like there's no tomorrow. LOL! Yes, it takes forever to finish poking those tiny holes. But once they're done, I'm all hyped up to stitch!

I could do cross stitch designs or any stitch design that I want on paper. All up to my creativity. I just love the idea of how easy it is to beautify a card simply by adding a layer of paper that is stitched. I don't even have to add any flowers or other embellishments if I didn't want to. Just add a simple sentiment and the card is done.

I'll try to make a video explaining how I hand stitch on paper soon. It's actually very easy to do especially if you have tried cross stitch before or embroidery. The only difference is how to start sewing it and how to end the stitch on paper. I used to have problems sewing on paper, but ever since I learned the technique, I find it super easy. The only thing that's difficult is poking the holes of each design. That needs a lot of focus and concentration. One mistake will ruined the whole design.

Below are some random stitching I did for my cards! ;)

I really enjoyed stitching this purple and pink combo. So happy I could finally use this design that I got from an embroidery book I bought years ago. When I first got the book, I didn't think I would be able to do this type of stitching because it looked so hard to do. But now that I've learned a lot about how to stitch on paper, this design seemed easy for me to do compared to doing the cross-stitch ones and I could complete it a lot faster as well. I love the fact that I could embellish the card with some colourful bling bling on it too. They just gives it a more special effect to the card.

This cross-stitch design with just one white colour thread used took me the longest to complete. I hope to make another one with a different colour. But white can certainly match with a lot of embellishments or if I were to add quilling flowers and leaves to it.

I love the simplicity of this design. The easiest and the fastest to complete! Haha! It started as a cross-stitch design but I ended up joining the crosses to each other and suddenly it becomes another type of stitching altogether. I just love how it turned out. Of course colours can change according to what colour of embellishments you wish to add to the card. So, planning ahead about what you want to put on the card is always a good thing before you choose the colour of thread to stitch on paper that acts as the frame. At first I wanted to place the quilling flower on the card but I decided to use the printed cut outs I bought some time ago. The colours really matched the thread!! :) It's a simple design that I could easily do and use when I'm in a hurry.

Ok! So if you were to check out Jennifer McGuire's work, you could see that my design here was inspired by her work. She just loves to stitch design like this for her cards and her designs are just beautiful! It's like stitching samplers on the card. The colours she chooses and the thread she uses are a bit different from what I choose for my designs. Because I use what I have available. I don't want to buy new materials to create something new because I have too many craft goodies in my craft room that are begging me to use them! LOL!! Like seriously, I have too many things that I bought in the past or things that were given to me that desperately needs my attention right now. I need to use them up so that I can have more space in my craft room. And this sewing project is definitely helping me achieve my mission.

Stitching colours of the rainbow!! Oh God this one took a really really long time for me to finish sewing all those colourful threads. I just can't imagine doing this one again any time soon. I would have to be in a very very good mood and have a lot of chocolates at hand before I start doing this one again, LOL!! Too many colours and too time consuming. But I really love the final effect.

So these are just some random examples of what I've been up to since July. Now in September, I'm still experimenting with what I can do with thread and paper. I will definitely do more of this in future and I'll share it here for all to see. There's just a million things one can do with thread and paper! :)

How to make flowers using a quilling husking board

Hello again!

It's October already and I have been having fun playing with new quilling tools! Oh yes! Believe it or not after 8 years of quilling, last month I got myself a quilling crimper and quilling husking board. First time ever trying out these tools and they are so much fun to use! Seriously!

I knew about the quilling crimper many years ago but never got one because the one I knew of was so expensive to buy until I found out about this cheap one! Hahaha! I immediately rushed to get it. It was worth it. It works really well so far and I've seen many other quillers using it and not having any problem with it at all so I'm glad I got it in the end.

As for the quilling husking board, I only found out about it a few weeks ago when I was browsing through Instagram. Saw a few quillers there who are using it and it seems like fun. I didn't know what it was called in the beginning because they didn't mention the name of the tool. It was such a long search before I finally found out what they call it and where to find one.

I've been busy playing with the tools and experimenting with them on my own now. It's not easy to find tutorials on how to use the quilling husking board though. There are just a few. But it was enough for me to get the idea of how to use it. From there I just figured out how to make use of it for my quilling designs.

Here are some of the husking designs I have made and the crimping obsession I've been having lately that I've shared on my Instagram @azlinaabdul so far. Just playing with a few designs to see what I really like so that I can use them for my future handmade cards etc.

I made a really simple tutorial on how to use the crimper and also the quilling husking board. I hope you will take some time to watch it and try this technique yourself. Thank you so much!!
