Birthday easel card with pink quilling flowers

I guess there's always a story behind every art work that I do and this one is no exception. It all started when I was playing with my quilling comb about a week ago. It had been a while since I last held one in my hand and made any quilling shapes with it. I then tried to make quilling loops with the comb and started layering each one on top of the other and somehow created this quilling pattern below.

After doing that, I kept thinking of how to turn it into a petal because I wanted to make a flower with it. But since it was so big, I turned it into a flower bud instead. Then when I did so.....it somehow reminded me of a strawberry ...doesn't it look like one to you?? Hahahahha....Check out the photo below....

No matter how it looked, pink strawberries or flower buds, I still loved it! And decided to use it for my new handmade card design that I was requested to do for a very special person.

These days I prefer to hand letter all my sentiments for my handmade cards. I guess, it would make the card more special and unique instead of just printing them. Plus by doing so, I get to practice writing with the brush again too. Which I don't get to do everyday. So it was fun. :) Do check out the video of the card below.

Like I said earlier, this card was made for someone special. And that someone is actually the founder of Jamu Mandara, Puan Azliza Ahmad. Her birthday was earlier this month but I was only able to give the card to her a week later. A little late but better late than never right? Hehe! :) Below are a couple of photos of her and me when we met a few days ago in Kangar, Perlis for a business meeting.

I also made her a hand bound book. A simple coptic stitch hand bound book. Actually, both the card and the hand bound book had the same colour combination of bright pink and lime green. This is because the product she sells uses the same colour for the packaging. So I thought that it would be cool to use those colours for the design of the handmade card and hand bound book. So it's something that she would appreciate because it's related to her products. 

I started taking her Jamu products since August this year. I've been getting really great results ever since I took them. I feel so much lighter, more energetic and I've been able to do my work better ever since. I can't imagine going through a day without it. So I am very much grateful to Puan Azliza Ahmad for her help in making me feel good through her products and I couldn't be happier to be able to meet her in person to thank her personally for that. The meeting was also for us to talk more about business since last October I decided to become an agent for Jamu Mandara because I was so confident of their products and would like to spread the word about it to all my friends and family about how wonderful Jamu Mandara is. Red roses easel card

Red roses!! Oh how I love making them for this card! I made so many of them too mainly because the person I gave them to love red roses so much. I actually made this card in August. But didn't get the chance to blog about it back then so I did it in September. A bit late but better late than never at all. How can I never! Haha! I had to share it here sooner or later.

The design for this birthday and easel card is actually very easy to make. The front part of the card is just mainly pasted with die cut roses and a simple sentiment that I wrote myself using a dip pen with gold ink. I used a patterned paper that had some red roses as part of the design on the corners of it. So that leaves me some space in the center for me to add those red roses and sentiment.

To beautify it a bit more, I simply added some  plastic rhinestones of different colours and some white flower stigma in between the roses. That somehow will help make the red roses stand out a bit more on the card.

I embossed all the die cuts that I used for making the red roses and leaves. It somehow makes them look less stiff and a little bit more real. Although that means it will take me more time to get them done but the results are worth it.

Purple and peach roses easel card

I cannot remember if I have ever done a purple and peach colour combination before in the past for any of my handmade cards but I'm glad that I did so for this card as I really like this combination. It's all thanks to my customer who requested these colours.

This is also a first for me to add a photo frame on an easel card. This is another request from my customer. I've already done photo frames for my tri-shutter cards before and I was excited that I could try to add one for this easel card too. The only issue is the size of the frame. I knew I could not fit a big one on it, so I added a small one, that is just big enough to fit a photo of a person in it. 

The design for this card is a lot similar to the easel card design I've done before where I decorated it with lots of die cut paper roses. I just love making them! Especially with patterned papers.

I also tried to write the sentiment myself with the brush lettering technique. I still have a lot to learn and I love learning how to do it. I am constantly learning and improving my brush lettering strokes. I do so that I am able to use the skill on my handmade cards. I do love seeing them on my handmade cards a lot! It simply is a good thing to see for a change from computer printing or stamping.

Dusty blue and rose anniversary card

This is the third time easel card that I mentioned about in my previous post. I used pattern papers from the same package that I bought to make my second easel card. The colours of the papers from that package are mostly pastel and more subdued. Very light shade of blues and rose and some soft cream colours. I rarely get to work with such colours. Most of the time, the colours I used are quite bright. So it's nice to use pastels for a change once in a while.

In a quick glance, this anniversary card looks similar to the birthday card I made previously. The design of the roses and how I arranged them on the card are similar. The differences are minimal.

I started using the die cut rose pattern for the birthday card and I just couldn't stop using them for this anniversary card too. They are just so easy to make and a great way to decorate a card when you have no idea what to embellish the card with. It's an easy fix.

I'm getting used to making easel cards now and I'm positively sure that I'll make more of them next year. Do check out the video of the card below and see how it looks like when I open it up and make it stand on display :).

Hello everyone! I have not been active here as much as I should and I seriously have to get back in action as often as I can here from now on wards otherwise I would be in trouble in updating what I've been up to for the past few weeks. A lot has happened since my last post and I've been busy making cards and quilling sets. So lots of blogging to do soon before the year ends!
 

This is actually my second easel card that I made in November and there is another one I made in November too which has a similar design but with different occasion. One is a birthday card and the other is an anniversary card. Both have different colours but almost the same layout though. Oh well, you'll see what I mean soon enough once I've blogged about it :).

I was thinking of new ways to decorate this card and I remembered the die cut rose pattern I bought years ago. I used to hate using this die cut rose pattern because I actually thought it was not pretty when rolled up. Not sure why I changed my mind this time around. I kinda love it now! Haha! Yes, I guess people do change their minds after some time. We just never know how we would feel about certain things sometimes. One minute we hate it, and the next minute we might just love it.

I used a few pattern papers that I was never going to use as a background layout for my handmade cards to make the quilled roses. The colours of the pattern papers for the roses somehow fits nicely with the rest of the colours of papers I picked for the card. So no pattern paper will ever be wasted from now on wards! Yay!!

I made two of this design so far for two special ladies. I've known them since I was little and they are fans of my handmade cards. So making this card for them was really great because they really adore handcrafted cards so much.

My first easel card

Gosh.....I am way behind schedule when it comes to updating my blog lately. I have so many cards waiting in line to be uploaded and blogged about. Things have been really chaotic around here so much so that I'm forgetting a lot of things including not taking a video of my first easel card! I totally forgot! Arrrggghh! I hate it when things like this happens. OH WHAT TO DO! The card has been sent out last month and the occasion is all over. If only I could turn back time.

Yes, it was my first easel card. I took a risk doing it, with permission from my customer, as he only wanted a simple anniversary card for his wife but me being someone who likes challenges, I opted to do something different from the original design that I've done before. He wanted this card HERE, just click on it and you will see what it looks like. It's similar to the quilling birds that I did for this easel card. The old design was done in 2012. So long ago and I've learned so much since then, so I wanted to apply new techniques on this new design. I just don't see myself doing certain techniques anymore. Hence the new look. :)

I'm just glad that my customer let me do whatever I wanted. He's happy, I'm happy. That's all that matters! I get to try and do something new and I loved it. I never thought that I would like making the easel card but I did. Sometimes, there are certain designs that would look better using this type of card fold. So I'm glad that I decided to do it. 

I also had fun sewing beads on the card. I sew them all around the card to make it look like a frame. At first I thought of just sewing the green thread all around but since I wanted to do something different, I thought it would be nice to add those seed beads. I love experimenting and trying out new things. It just makes the experience a little more fun than usual :).
