Old design in new colors

HB080B

This was a last minute card for my Mom's good friend. I stayed up late the other night just to get it done. I'm glad that it turned out good. This is actually an old design but I changed the colors. I didn't have time to think of a new design...so I used an old design instead. Just some changes in colors and walla! A  new card is born. :)

You can have a look at the old design at the at the link HERE.

Teddy bears!

Miss Cheryl from Cards by Cheryl was right.......in order to get into the mood again to craft, sometimes we need to reorganize our working table.....or peek at other artist's work and get inspired by them. I did both! hehehe! Once I did all that, I am back in the mood to quill again. And this evening, I tried my hand at making quilled teddy bears! Yay!

I've always wanted to make a quilled teddy bear ever since Miss Asma' from Simple Rhyme made her quilled teddy bears some time ago. But she didn't make the body of the teddy.....she just made the head. And she did taught us all during the quilling get together on how to make the head of the teddy bear.  So cute!! Since I didn't get the chance to make one during the get together, I knew one day I would try to make one of those quilled teddy bears before I forget the instructions she gave me! hahaha!

It's not that difficult to make. It's quite easy. The only thing is that, we have to be careful when quilling such a long paper strip. The bigger the quill, the harder to control it from slipping off my fingers and opening up. So I took my own sweet time when quiling it.....and not rushing it so much.

My quilled teddy bears still need some adjustments. It's not quite completed yet. I haven't done the eyes or mouth or nose on it's face. Still thinking of how to do it. Whether I should just draw the face using pen or using some other medium.

I showed the quilled teddy bears to my Mom and she commented on how fat they look! hahaha! She says they have such a big belly! So boroi gitu! hahaha! Oh well! :D

Tool box

I'm so not in the mood right now to quill.......eventhough I have a lot of cards waiting for me to decorate them with quilled flowers, butterflies and etc etc. I'm practically forcing myself to work right now. That's not good. Not sure what's wrong with me lately. The mood is just not there. Have I lost it somewhere? Don't know..... :(

I just wanted to share with everyone what I would usually do with those quilled shapes I've made. I kept them all in this tool box! I even keep those rejected quilled shapes  in this tool box. I didn't buy this tool box at a craft store. I bought it at a supermarket.....found it at the hardware department. There are a lot different types of tool box available in the market. But I like this one. It looks like a plastic folder except it has lots of sections in it. I bought a few of them so that I can keep my quilled shapes in it. I love it, it's so convenient!

Before I bought this tool box, I used to keep my quilled shapes in small plastic containers. All different types of  plastic food containers......you know, like margarine containers, yogurt containers, etc etc etc. hehehehe.....but they were all not easy to arrange since they were all in different shapes and sizes. So it doesn't look neat when I keep them away after work. So I guess that's why I decided to get me those tool box a few months back.....so that I can keep them stacked up nicely on the table and saves me a lot of space too. It looks so organized! hehehe.... :)

Making quilled clouds

What have I been busy doing lately? Making clouds! Yup! I've finished making all the hot air balloons and now I'm trying to finish up making the clouds for the giveaway cards. I've just realised that I have to quill 180 white circles to make 30 clouds. Gosh! That's just for 10 cards. But since I've gotten orders for this card design as well from other customers, so that means I have to make more clouds. Luckily they are not so difficult to make hehehe....

At first I wanted to make them using the needle tool but since there are just too many of them for me to make, I decided to make them using the slotted tool. Much easier for me and a little faster too :). Thought of using the bamboo skewer slotted tool but that one is somehow no longer a favourite of mine lately. I need to repair it so that the center of the quilled circles would look neater.

I'm trying to finish making these giveaway cards before the giveaway ends. The fact is, I'm trying to get them done by tonight......but but but....huhuhu......looks like they are still not done yet,  there's still just a little bit more before they are all done......and I still got envelopes to make though.  :) Back to my working table!! Ciao! ;)

September 2010 prizes posted!

Alhamdulillah.....after struggling to get all the 9 pieces of cards for the giveaway done this week, I managed to post 5 of them today to the 5 lucky winners. I still have 4 more that I have not posted because I didn't get any respond from 4 other winners since I last contacted them.  But I checked again this evening and saw 2 more that responded....yay! So that means there are 2 more who didn't. I wonder why.......don't they want the prize? Or perhaps, they just couldn't reach me. :( Oh well.......I really hope they would contact me as soon as possible to claim their prize.

The other 2 winners who have not contacted me is:   ENOL and DESPERATE MAMA

Please ya girls.......do respond to my emails and give me your details.

Thank you all!

Needle quilling tool

I own two types of quilling tools which I bought early this year. But I have only been using one of them (the slotted quilling tool - silver in color)  because it's much more easier to handle. I even made my own quilling tool using a bamboo skewer which I have been using for almost all of my quilling projects so far because it's so comfortable to hold and super easy to roll the strips of paper with it.

I've never tried using the needle tool like the one you see above (the one with the wooden handle), because I never had the patience to try it and didn't quite get it how to use it even though I've seen the video tutorials. All this time I kept thinking that it's too difficult to use. So I never used it for any of my projects until the day I went to the quilling get together when I saw with my own eyes how the other quillers used it. It looks so easy!

This is how I use my needle quilling tool. I made a video of how I use my needle quilling tool. Different people may have different styles of using it, but this is how I do it ;). Do check it out. :)

Once I've tried it, I could see the difference in the coils I've made. The paper coils are so much neater than the coils I made using the slotted quilling tool. I noticed that if I use the slotted quilling tool, there will be a  small crease in the center of the coil because the end of the paper strip is inserted at the slot thus creating a small crease there. If I use a needle quilling tool, there won't be any creases at all. I really love the effect I get using the needle quilling tool. It's especially wonderful when you are making quilled circles. The circles looks so much neater.

I feel that each quilling tool can be used for different types of quilling shapes. For me, if I want to make quilled circles from now onwards, I would only use the needle quilling tool as the quilled circles will look so much more neater and prettier. But for making quilled roses, the slotted quilling tools is much more suitable to use to roll the cut out shapes. It all depends also on which quilling tool you are comfortable with.  As for me, these are my preference.

You can see the differences of the quilled circles from the photos of the quilled hearts I made here. Can you spot the differences?? ;)

Fly away with me....

 Come fly away with me.......
to another world.....
just you and me....
be free.....

I was inspired by the quilled butterfly wings that Miyyah taught me during our quilling get together. In fact......some of us from the group made hot air balloons from the same method. I guess we all saw it the minute we tried making the butterfly wings. We knew that it would be suitable for making hot air balloons. I didn't get the chance to make one during the get together. But I've been meaning to make one once I get back to work and today, I managed to do that....finally! :)

To be honest, I didn't know how to go about making the clouds. Tried to search in the net for examples....but couldn't find any. So I just wing it! At first I made it using only 5 quilled circles.....but it looked a little weird, so I added one more quilled circle to make it look more like a cloud. I'm happy now with how it looks heehhe.

I was also thinking of a design for my October 2010 Blog Giveaway. I thought to myself......this would be a cute one to do for the giveaway. I needed a simple design since I will be making about 10 pieces of cards for October. That's a lot to handle. I can't imagine how am I going to handle November's and December's giveaway! Yikes! hehehehe! I'm not sure if people would like to win this card though hehehehe.....but I sure hope there will be supporters out there who would like to own it. :) Coz I sure love it a lot!

QUILLING GET TOGETHER V1.0

*Photo above taken from Miyyah@Kertas Facebook fan page.

Last Sunday, 3rd of October 2010, 11 people attended the quilling get together v1.0 at KLCC. We all met for the first time at the KLCC park around 10.00 in the morning. I must say this was one of the most exciting event of the year for me. I've never been to a quilling event like this before or any kind of craft event like this. It was great that I got to meet up with craft enthusiasts who share the same interests as I do. We all somehow connected so well instantly.....and I believe it's all because of our love for crafting.

After gathering at the park, we then proceeded to find a good place inside KLCC where we can quill comfortably. In the end, we decided to do it at KFC. :) Luckily the management did not bother us at all for quilling at their place. I bet that a lot of people who came to eat there were surprised to see us there, not eating and just quilling for hours!! I didn't eat at all......time just flew by so fast.....I didn't feel  the hunger until it was time for us to leave. I can't describe to you how hungry I was when it was over hehehehe!

Most of them who attended this get together brought their own tools, paper and other embellishments for the card making. I only managed to bring very little stuff along with me since I took the bus to KL and couldn't bring much craft stuff along with me. So luckily they were kind enough to share their craft materials for everyone to use. They even shredded the paper in advance for us to quill. Gosh! There were so many paper everywhere on the table.....so colorful too!!

Since I didn't get enough sleep the night before so when I was there for the get together, I was kinda like a zombie.....but tried my best to stay awake and alert for this event hehehe. I only managed to make one card on that day. I was super slow huhuhuhu..... I must say that those who tried their hand for the first time at quilling were wonderful! I was amazed at how quick they were at learning this technique and how creative they were too. :) I was like struggling to finish just one. Moreover, I couldn't decide what kind of design I was going to do. That's always my problem when it comes to designing.....always the case of not being able to decide what color I was going to use and how I would do the layout...... hahahaha......Below is the card I made using papers provided by Asma' and Sazalina :) Thank you girls!!

*Noticed how the three of us dressed up in blue??!! I love it!!!! ;)

Some of those who attended this quilling get together were those whom I admired too. I remember how I started quilling in the first place. It was all inspired by Miss Najmiyyah or better known as Miyyah from Miyyah@Kertas. When I saw her blog for the first time, I was super excited especially since she is from Malaysia. Because I've never known a quilling artist from Malaysia before. I was so proud of her! :) On that day, she taught us all how to make a new technique in quilling. Something that I've never tried doing before. We all learned from her how to make the wings of a butterfly! Using what she called as the alternate loop technique. It was so cool! I loved it! But I was so slow at doing it hehehe. I need to practice more! :)

I was also happy to meet my other fellow quilling artists, Miss Asma' from Simple Rhyme whom I've been friends with online for quite sometime now. So it was so great to be able to meet her in person. Her quilled artwork has always been so beautiful and I admire her work a lot! We even get to swap cards together on that day! Yay! I am so happy about that! :)

*Here I am with Asma' exchanging words in our cards that we wish to swap with :)

I'm also happy that I was able to quill with Miss Tania :) I remember when I first started doing this online business, she was the first customer to buy my cards online. :) On that day, she managed to make 3 quilled cards! She's so fast! hehehe! She makes her own handmade cards these days and doing it well too! :) Way to go Tania!

 *Me and Tania

I really had a great time!! I wish we can do this again one day. There were so much to say and do.....ideas to share with too. Time was so very limited. How wonderful if we can do this everyday :). I miss quilling with  all my new quilling friends :'(. I feel so blessed to be able to attend such an event and met so many lovely people. I'll never ever forget this first quilling get together.....it will remain in my memory forever.
